Nine nights of worshiping the divine Mother in Her cosmic form – Shakti; nine nights of feeling the radiating energy throughout India, in different ways only reminds me the purpose of my being here.
A daughter, a friend, a lover, a consort, a mother, a teacher, a colleague and so much more………
Just like the nine mothers worshiped every day of Navratri, celebrated in very different but special ways all across India, every woman is Shakti and a part of Her. We sometimes forget, sometimes get sucked into the battle of multitasking, the modern day epidemic of the womankind, but the fact of the matter is that it is not only creating and nurturing life, it is in fact binding everything together in that perfect harmony comes easily to a woman.
Religion is a very risky business to comprehend for sure. Especially, a religion which started as a way of life rather than something aggressive. Celebrating Shiv and Shakti celebrates the delicate balance of love, respect and faith that generates complementary energy in our lives. The balance is within us, the masculine and the feminine. Every woman has the power to create, protect and destroy, just like the divine mothers.
It was a few years ago, when completely bogged down by the demands of a very young child and a very ambitious career, that the real meaning of these shlokas finally dawned upon me.
Ya Devi sarva bhuteshu, Matri rupena samsthita
Ya Devi sarva bhuteshu, Shakti rupena samsthita
Ya Devi sarva bhutesu, Shanti rupena samsthita
Namestasyai Namestasyai Namestasyai Namoh Namah
The Goddess who is omnipresent as the personification of Universal Mother,
The Goddess who is omnipresent as the embodiment of Power,
The Goddess who is omnipresent as the symbol of Peace,
I bow to Her, I bow to Her, I bow to Her……………………
Just like every woman, I move from one role to another all through my life, proudly enjoying and living every bit of it. Because I am a part of Her and so are all of the womankind and we nurture, energize and be Her………..
And, when I go around the Garbo every night, I remember how the eternal cycle of universe goes on around that small earthen pot and the flame of life within…….
